Public health and research methods
Six 6-month professional certificate courses in public health and research methods, developed with international and national experts and delivered through blended learning with a practice site.

How these courses work
GIHD currently offers 6-month professional certificate training programmes in public health and research methods. Drawing upon our latest research, the modules have been developed through an extensive consultative process involving international and national experts and trainers.
In each certificate course, blended learning methodology will be applied: participants will be able to learn through a combination of online courses (e-learning) and in-person teaching and training. Participants will be introduced to key concepts and a data set or practice site to be used as a worked example throughout that course.
The applied aspect of the programme, or practicum, will provide an opportunity for participants to integrate and apply knowledge and skills from coursework to a 'practice site' where they will translate their learning into practice in accordance with individual programme requirements.
Each course is designed to cater to the diversity in educational and professional backgrounds of our participants. Participants can take the entire course or individual modules of interest.
Subject to academic council and regulatory approvals, credit hours earned through these certificate courses will be eligible for transfer into GIHD's planned Master of Public Health and Research (MPH&R) degree programme upon its formal launch.
Six certificate courses
The certificate course in Systematic Review of Literature for Public Health introduces participants to rigorous evidence synthesis methods. The course enables participants to perform a systematic review in their own field of interest over 6 months with hands-on workshops, software training (EndNote, Rayyan, RevMan), and group discussions.
Completion certificate is issued upon completing and passing a full systematic review manuscript.
Faculty: Led by Dr Syed Usman Hamdani (Director GIHD, Clinical Lecturer University of Liverpool, UK) with Ms. Zill-e-Huma, Dr Ahmed Waqas, and Ms. Wajeeha Zafar.
This certificate course is based on modern quantitative research methods used to estimate population parameters and health effects of interventions. Covers epidemiological literature review, quantitative study design, data collection tools, and statistical analysis with access to real-world worked data sets.
Completion certificate is issued upon coursework completion and submission of a quantitative research project.
Provides in-depth understanding of qualitative research methods from design and data collection to interpretive analysis. Participants learn qualitative coding using dedicated software (NVivo) and are provided a practice site to gain hands-on experience conducting a qualitative study in public health.
Completion certificate is issued upon completing coursework and submitting a qualitative research report.
A practical series of grant writing workshops designed for researchers seeking funding from international and national agencies. Covers identifying funding sources, proposal drafting following standard grant elements, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, research ethics compliance, and grant budgeting.
Completion certificate is issued upon completing coursework and developing a competitive grant proposal.
Provides essential scientific writing and analytical skills to articulate research findings for indexed journals. In dedicated mentorship workshops, participants draft a manuscript, identify target peer-reviewed journals, submit their manuscript, and navigate peer review with faculty guidance.
Completion certificate is issued upon completing a research manuscript and submitting it to a target journal.
Provides hands-on training and access to essential research software: Open Data Kit (ODK) for mobile data collection, SPSS and AMOS for statistical modeling, NVivo for qualitative analysis, EndNote and Rayyan for systematic reviews, and Turnitin.
Completion certificate is issued upon completing hands-on coursework and a practical project.
