Where LHVs and CMWs work
Both diplomas are recognised nationally by PNMC. Graduates can apply for posts in government health programmes, rural health facilities and NGOs across Pakistan. Hiring follows public and NGO vacancy rules — IPHN&M does not place graduates into a guaranteed job.
LHV graduates
Qualified LHVs can join the Government of Pakistan's Lady Health Worker Programme, conducting home visits and providing maternal and child health services to households across Pakistan.
LHV and CMW graduates
LHVs and CMWs work at Rural Health Centres (RHCs) and Basic Health Units (BHUs) providing maternal and child health services, antenatal care and family planning counselling.
CMW graduates
Qualified CMWs are deployed to villages for antenatal visits, safe deliveries and postnatal follow-up in areas where women cannot reach hospitals.
LHV and CMW graduates
National and international NGOs working in health in Pakistan, including those in flood-affected and underserved areas, regularly hire LHVs and CMWs.

Annual Day 2026
IPHN&M's LHV and CMW graduates marked the end of the 2023 to 2025 diploma session with a formal graduation ceremony. Graduates took the professional oath and received their diplomas, with top performers also awarded Certificates of Merit in front of family and faculty.

LHV Session 2023–25 graduates talk about their time training at IPHN&M.
In the medical profession, whatever way you can serve humanity is a great thing to do.
What we learned here, we couldn't have learned as well anywhere else. It built the confidence to speak up and carry myself anywhere.
I'm the first girl from my village in this field. No institute made me feel as secure as GIHD does.
Now that I work at a hospital, I can see the real difference between how GIHD trained us and how others were trained elsewhere.

Common questions
Can't find what you need? Email [email protected] or call 0330 2000398.
A Lady Health Visitor (LHV) is a trained female community health worker. She visits households for antenatal and postnatal care, family-planning counselling, immunisation support and health education. In Pakistan, LHVs work in Basic Health Units, Rural Health Centres, the Lady Health Worker Programme and NGOs. At IPHN&M the LHV diploma is a PNMC-recognised qualification taught at the Mandra campus.
A Community Midwife (CMW) provides skilled birth attendance, antenatal visits and postnatal follow-up in villages and other places where hospital delivery is hard to reach. Pakistan's CMW pathway exists to put trained attendants closer to those communities. IPHN&M offers the CMW diploma as a PNMC-recognised programme on the same Mandra campus as LHV, with hostel places for students who do not live locally.
LHV is broader community maternal-and-child health: household visiting, prevention, family planning and health education. CMW is centred on pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period. LHV needs FSc Pre-Medical and Matric Science at 45% with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. CMW accepts Matric Science or Arts at 40%. Age limits differ: 14–35 for LHV, 14–40 for CMW. Both diplomas at IPHN&M are PNMC recognised.
Yes. The Institute of Public Health Nursing & Midwifery at GIHD is a Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council recognised teaching institute and is affiliated with the Nursing Examination Board Punjab. Before you pay any private college, search IPHN&M on the PNMC recognised-institutes list at https://pnmc.gov.pk/recognized-institutes/. A diploma from an unrecognised school will not support a valid licence.
Open https://pnmc.gov.pk/recognized-institutes/ and search for the Institute of Public Health Nursing and Midwifery or GIHD in Gujar Khan / Rawalpindi. Confirm the LHV and CMW programmes are listed under that institute. PNMC's diploma page at https://pnmc.gov.pk/diploma-programs/ also states national eligibility for LHV and CMW. If the name on your offer letter does not match the list, do not pay.
For LHV at IPHN&M you need FSc Pre-Medical with at least 45% marks and Matric Science with at least 45% marks, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology compulsory in both. Age limit is 14 to 35 years. A Hafiz-e-Quran certificate from a registered institution adds five merit marks. Arts students are not eligible for LHV — they should look at CMW instead.
For Community Midwifery at IPHN&M you need Matric (Science or Arts) with at least 40% marks. Age limit is 14 to 40 years. A Hafiz-e-Quran certificate from a registered institution adds five merit marks. The CMW diploma is the course on this campus that is open to Arts students.
Yes. CMW at IPHN&M accepts Matric from Science or Arts with at least 40% marks, age 14 to 40. Arts students are not eligible for LHV, which requires a science stream. If you only have Matric Arts and want a PNMC midwifery diploma, CMW is the route here. Call 0330 2000398 if your marksheet combination is unusual.
No. LHV is a PNMC diploma for community maternal and child health visiting. A Generic BSN is a separate four-year nursing degree offered by other PNMC-recognised colleges. IPHN&M currently admits students to LHV and CMW, not to BSN. If you want a nursing degree, check a PNMC-recognised BSN institute. If you want community MCH or midwifery, these diplomas are the courses on this campus.
Yes. IPHN&M runs an on-campus hostel at Mandra with shared rooms and attached washrooms, plus internet, dining, a TV room and laundry. Students from outside Islamabad and Rawalpindi can complete the diploma without finding private housing. A daily pick-and-drop service also runs from Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Ask admissions about current room availability when you apply.
IPHN&M is near the 1122 office, Village Bucha, Mandra, Tehsil Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi. It is GIHD's teaching campus for LHV and CMW, not the DHA Islamabad research offices. Maps and facilities are on the Our campuses page. If you are visiting from another city, confirm hostel or pick-and-drop with 0330 2000398 before you travel.
If both are PNMC-recognised, the licence pathway is the same credential. Government schools often limit seats by domicile and may not offer hostel. IPHN&M is a private PNMC institute with its own intake, open to applicants from across Pakistan, with hostel and pick-and-drop. Choose on recognition first, then on seat rules, housing and whether you can attend Mandra for the full diploma.
Yes, if you meet IPHN&M's published eligibility for LHV or CMW. Government schools often close on domicile quotas; IPHN&M runs its own admissions and accepts applicants from across Pakistan. You still need PNMC recognition (this institute is listed) and the academic marks for the course you choose. WhatsApp 0330 2000398 with your marksheets before you travel to campus.
LHV graduates work in the public system (Lady Health Worker Programme, BHUs, RHCs) and with NGOs in maternal and child health. CMW graduates work as community birth attendants for antenatal care, delivery and postnatal follow-up. PNMC recognition is national, so the credential is not limited to one district. GIHD does not promise a government post; hiring follows public and NGO vacancy rules.
Fee details are available on request. Email [email protected] or call 0330 2000398 rather than relying on third-party admission sites. A scholarship is available for students who achieve 70% or above marks, as published on this page. Hostel is a separate living cost. Ask for the current fee letter in writing before you transfer money.
Lady Health Visitors are hired across Pakistan's public health system — Basic Health Units, Rural Health Centres and the Lady Health Worker Programme — and by NGOs in maternal and child health. Demand is real; a job offer is not automatic. The qualification is recognised nationally by PNMC. Whether it is right for you depends on eligibility, willingness to work in community settings, and the current vacancy cycle when you graduate.
You need two attested passport photos; attested Matric certificates (and FSc if you are applying for LHV); attested CNIC or B-Form; attested parent or guardian CNIC; attested domicile; and a Hafiz-e-Quran certificate if you want the five extra merit marks. FSc is required for LHV, not for CMW. Hard copies can be submitted at the Mandra campus. WhatsApp 0330 2000398 for a document check.
Apply online using the forms on this page: LHV application and CMW application. Hard copy forms are accepted at the Mandra campus, and the document checklist for this intake is in the Documents & aid section above. For help, call or WhatsApp 0330 2000398, Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm, or email [email protected].
