A Lady Health Visitor (LHV) is a trained female community health worker who visits households to provide antenatal and postnatal care, family planning counselling, immunisation support and health education. In Pakistan, LHVs work at government health centres, Basic Health Units, Rural Health Centres and NGOs. The LHV diploma is a 2-year PNMC-recognised qualification.
A Community Midwife (CMW) provides skilled birth attendance, safe deliveries, antenatal visits and postnatal follow-up in villages and underserved areas. Pakistan's CMW programme was set up to bring trained birth attendants closer to communities where women cannot reach hospitals. The CMW diploma is a 2-year PNMC-recognised qualification.
An LHV (Lady Health Visitor) focuses on community health education, maternal and child health, family planning and preventive care. A CMW (Community Midwife) focuses specifically on safe deliveries, antenatal visits and postnatal follow-up. LHV requires both FSc Pre-Medical and Matric Science with 45% marks. CMW accepts Matric Science or Arts with 40% marks, making it accessible to a wider range of students. Both are 2-year PNMC-recognised diplomas with strong government job prospects.
